Charlemont is just one of the many novels written by Simms in his literary career. It is set in Kentucky and recounts some dreadful events that took place there in the village of Charlemont. Simms is careful in his long forward to the book, to explain that he has stuck as closely to the truth of what he describes as a tragic event, as possible.
