The Peddler Spy; or, Dutchmen and Yankees. A Tale of the Capture of Good Hope

The story is set in the town of Good Hope established by the first Dutch settlers and sitting on the banks of the Hudson River. The 'Yankees' who lived nearby in Hartford, were increasing both in number and nuisance and were actively disliked by the Dutch. So the stage for a fight is set when 'Boston Bainbridge' a peddler of the Yankee variety appears in town with his wares in a pack on his back.
