This is a historical compilation by Sir Edgar Rees Jones, MP in the UK House of Commons from 1910 to 1922. It comprises of selected speeches made by various British Prime Ministers from William Pitt the Elder to David Lloyd George, spanning the period from 1738 to 1914. The speeches are selected not for their rhetorical quality, but historical interest. Speeches deal with such matters of foreign policy as were of exceptional interest at the time of writing the book in 1914. They were chosen so as to cover a variety of international crises that affected various states in the period before WW1. The author hopes to prepare his reader's minds to consider the problems of European re-settlement which were expected to arise at the end of the First World War, which was only starting at the time.
