Mary Oliphant is a distinguished and influential writer of the Victorian era. She was most well known for supernatural fiction, such as The Open Door, and A Bealeaguered City. In In Trust, Anne has fallen for a man who her father disapproves of. Anne must find a way to convince her father or pursue her love without his support. Though Oliphant does not challenge the patriarchy or gender roles, her examination of love in the 1800s remains relevant today.
