The Author of Beltraffio

This is one of Henry James' longer short stories. On the surface it is a simple tale of a rather naive young American's admiration for a fictional writer – the author of Beltrafio. Under the surface there is a darker and more complex subplot, involving James' own sexuality and the attitude of Victorian Christain morality to homosexuality.
