Jahrhunderts und handelt vom Pferdehändler Michael Kohlhaas, der gegen ein Unrecht, das man ihm angetan hat, zur Selbstjustiz greift. Historisches Vorbild für diese Novelle von Heinrich von Kleist war das Leben des Kaufmanns Hans Kohlhase, der 1540 in Berlin hingerichtet wurde.
