The King's Scapegoat

The story is set in the fifteenth century and is told in the first person beginning with a brief description of the protagonist's life to the age of about 20. He was, apparently, an unlucky boy who first lost his father and then 15 years later his mother. He is now alone in the world with none but his faithful servant Martin and his horse Roland.
