The King's Plot' is an absorbing historical fiction by English novelist and historical writer G. P. R. James. It follows the story of John Ruthven, the 3rd Earl of Gowrie, who was a Scottish nobleman. He died in mysterious circumstances, referred to as the «Gowrie Conspiracy.» Ruthven and his brother Alexander tried to kill or abduct King James VI of Scotland for unspecified purposes. However, the king's attendants killed both brothers during the attack, and the king survived. The novel gives a fresh perspective on this conspiracy and keeps the readers engaged throughout.
