"Bulgaria" by Frank Fox
Fox was a British journalist and author whose career took him around the world. When instructed in the autumn of 1912 to join the Bulgarian army, then mobilizing for war against Turkey, as a war correspondent for the London Morning Post, Fox was prepared to document all the horrors he would face. However, between sometimes hard-to-read, visceral accounts of war atrocities, Fox also finds room to fit thoughtful commentary and personal perspectives which both critique Bulgarian politics while admiring the innate beauty of the country.
