About the book

"Our Women in the War" is a book based on a speech made by Capt. Francis W. Dawson, delivered on February 22, 1887, at the fifth annual re-union of the Association of The Maryland Line, at the Academy of Music, Baltimore, Maryland. Dawson appreciates the great suffering that the women in the Confederate states during the American Civil War underwent and he opines that, «In a single word, the Southern women, old and young, gentle and simple, had but one thought, and that was to aid and encourage, in every conceivable way, the soldiers of the South. Aye! And the valor in the field would have but little worth without the bravery at home…»
