Dave Smith was a star of the the final in 1972, creating two of the three goals on the night in a season in which he was named player of the year by the Scottish Football Writers' Association. He had suffered the pain of defeat in 1967, when Rangers were beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich in the final of the same competition, and the agony of two broken legs in the interim period.
With grit and determination, he fought back to play a key role in Rangers' greatest night.
