About the book
"The Angel of the Assassination" is a biography of Marie-Anne Charlotte de Corday d'Armont, known as Charlotte Corday. She was a prominent figure in the French Revolution, notably famous for the assassination of Jacobin leader Jean-Paul Marat. The latter was in part responsible for the more radical course of the Revolution In 1793 and played a substantial role in the political purge of the Girondins, with whom Corday sympathized. She was executed by guillotine after the trial on the death of Marat. Half a century later, the writer Alphonse de Lamartine gave Corday the posthumous nickname the Angel of Assassination, which became the title of her several biographies.
