"Union and Democracy" by Allen Johnson is an important addition to American history literature. As a Harvard professor of American history, Johnson was an expert who was uniquely qualified to write on such a topic. Not only is his passion evident, but he knows how to write in a way to capture audiences, as that was the only way he would be able to maintain his students' attention, after all.
