Славяне-язычники верили, что свое божество есть у каждой реки, леса или луга. Полагался дух и дому – ведь без него жившие в нем люди могли начать болеть или даже умирать. На Руси существовал обычай строить дом на месте, где покоились останки предка. Иногда под порогом хоронили первого умершего после новоселья члена семьи. Тогда его дух считался хранителем дома.
