The sky had remained clear an all-day; by the end, I even wanted a little bit of rain to cool off. George and I were in sweat while working. I very wanted to drink. When we finally ended the installing the last sail of the mast, the first thing I wanted, going down to the deck, to get something to drink.

Внизу уже собрались все члены команды. Пари мы не выиграли и к четырем дня не справились с установкой. Но мы почти и не уступили экипажу. По условиям пари Лу все-таки должен был прокукарекать трижды. Он встал в позу, сложил руки рупором и… кукарекнул, потом еще и еще. Все рассмеялись, Лу картинно откланялся, а потом мы стали знакомиться друг с другом. Нам повезло – оказалось, что официальный язык общения в команде английский, и каждый член команды говорил на нем.

All the team members already gathered at the bottom. We didn't win the bet, unable to cope with the installation on to four o'clock. But we almost never lost to the crew. Lou had to crow three times on the terms of the bet. He stood in a pose, folded his hands around his mouth and shouted… "Kukareku!", then another and another. Everybody laughed, Lou bowed theatrically, and then we started to get acquainted with each other. We were lucky – it turned out that the official language of communication was English, and each team member spoke English.

The crew of the ship, not counting Lucas, is 12. Captain Eric, bent over, and two men, Steve and Sebastian were older than thirty years. Those who remained were the same as Bigben or me. It was four guys and four girls: – Ulrike, Inge, Olaf… I didn't immediately remember all the names. In the morning, the captain was let go half of the crew to walk the city, so we had not seen them when we ascended to the deck of the sailboat.

Lou disappeared for a while among all the activity going and then appeared with two mugs of water. We with Bigben have drunk it with great pleasure. The captain said we could go to the galley along with half of the team, returning from a walk, and Steve, the cook on the ship, would feed us lunch.

Есть хотелось теперь не меньше, чем пить, и это было здорово, что нас пригласили пообедать. Не заставив себя ждать, мы вместе с частью команды прошли на камбуз. Стив приготовил жаркое с картошкой, совсем как на суше. На столе стояли нарезанные овощи и хлеб. Голодными были не только мы, но и моряки, вернувшиеся из города.

I now wanted to eat no less than to drink, and it was great that we were invited to lunch. Not forcing ourselves to wait, we with a part of the team went to the galley. Steve made a roast with potatoes just like on land. On the table, there were dishes with sliced vegetables and bread. The hungry were not only we but also sailors that returned from the city.

Всем положили порции «от души», и мы, «уплетая за обе щеки» жаркое и свежие овощи, еще успевали поговорить о городе. Спрашивали о том, где были и что видели сегодня ребята, что им понравилось, рассказывали, в свою очередь, что бы еще стоило посмотреть в Санкт-Петербурге. Обед «пролетел» незаметно. Поблагодарив Стива, мы еще разведали, где «гальюн», он же туалет, на судне – его местоположение оказалось неожиданным, а после вернулись на палубу.

Steve put all portions of "from the heart" and we, "gobbling up both cheeks" the roast with potatoes as well fresh vegetables, talked some more about the city. We asked about where the boys were and what they saw today, what they liked, and we talked, in turn, what else was worth seeing in St. Petersburg. Lunch "flew" unnoticed. Thanking Steve, we found out where the "privy," it is the toilet on the ship – its location was unexpected, and then we returned to the deck.

До репетиции оставалось больше часа. Судно было готово к ней. Алые паруса ждали, когда их распустят. Я с гордостью смотрела на нашу работу. Приятно было ощущать свою причастность к подготовке праздника. Посмотреть бы, как будут выглядеть паруса, особенно на фок-мачте, когда бриг поплывет по Неве.

More than an hour remained before the rehearsal. The ship was ready for it. Scarlet sails "waited" when sailors set free them. I proudly looked at our work. It was nice to feel involved in the holiday preparation. I would like to see how the sails would look, especially on the fore-mast, when the brig would sail along the Neva river.

Капитан предложил нам остаться. Хоть и очень хотелось быть во время репетиции на бриге, я знала, что не могу – сегодня мне надо было обязательно попасть на кладбище. Поблагодарив за приглашение, я сказала, что мне нужно в город. Бигбен тихо спросил меня:

The captain invited us to stay. Though I very wanted to be during a rehearsal at the brig, I knew that I couldn't – today I had to get to the cemetery. Thanking for the invitation, I said I have to go into city. Bigben quietly asked me:

– Зачем тебе?

"Why would you?"

– Сегодня два года, как погибли родители. Мне надо на кладбище.

"Today is two years since our parents died. I have to get to the cemetery."

– Я отвезу тебя.

"I'll drive you."

Мы объяснили Лукасу, в чем дело, и, попрощавшись со всеми, сошли с парусника.

We explained to Lucas what was the matter, and saying goodbye to everyone, went down with the sailboat.

– Вы можете вернуться сюда к окончанию репетиции, если захотите. – сказал Лу при прощании.

"You can come back here by the end of the rehearsal if you will," Lou proposed.

– О’кей, если что, мы позвоним. Попутного ветра! – ответил Бигбен.

"Okay, we'll call you if anything. Tailwind!" Bigben replied.

Глава 29. Поездка на кладбище. Бета-тестирование / Chapter 29. Trip to Cemetery. Beta-Testing

Лукас остался с командой, а мы уехали. Мои родители были похоронены на Шуваловском кладбище, в черте города и не так далеко от Петропавловской крепости. Вернуться к окончанию репетиции мы могли бы, Лукас был прав.

Lucas remained with the team, and we left. My parents were buried at the Shuvalov cemetery – it was in the city and not far from the Petropavlovskaya fortress. We could return to the end of rehearsal, Lucas was right.

В машине я вспомнила сон Бигбена:

In the car, I remembered the dream of Bigben:

– Твой сегодняшний сон с веревкой и узлами, как говорят, «в руку». Сколько мы сегодня узлов завязали, пока ставили паруса.

– Алекса это говорила во сне. Знаешь, она за ночь до этой приснилась мне и столько странного рассказала…

– Она сказала, что наши ученые обнаружили темную материю, которая невидима для нас. И ее больше чем обычной материи, из которой состоит весь видимый мир, в несколько раз.

– Так и есть. Считается, что темная материя существует, и, по оценкам ученых, проявленного мира – всех звезд, планет, межзвездной пыли и газа меньше 5%, темной материи – 27%. А остальные 68 процентов составляет…

– Темная энергия, – перебила я его.

– Немного. Только то, что она есть, и ее в несколько раз больше, чем темной материи. Правда, наши ученые говорят, что «весь проявленный мир – это лишь самая верхушка айсберга»?

"A little bit. Only that there is the dark energy, and its quantity is even more than dark matter, more than a few times. It's true our scientists say that 'the entire phenomenal world is only the tip of the iceberg'?"

– Говорят.

"It's right, I heard."

– А темная материя – это непроявленный мир. И в нем разрабатываются сценарии для нашего мира, проявленного. Не только разрабатываются, но и постоянно корректируются под нас.

"The dark matter is the unmanifested world. And scripts for our phenomenal world are developed in it, not only are created but also constantly adjusted under us."

– Что ты имеешь в виду?

"What do you mean?"

– Алекса сказала, что любой сценарий, созданный там, при материализации в нашем мире изменяется, учитывая способность людей мыслить и обучаться. Какие-то из вариантов остаются на уровне идеи, другие же получают свое развитие. Идет взаимодействие проявленного и непроявленного мира. И оно мгновенно, не имеет значения, в какой точке пространства находится человек, любая его мысль сразу же фиксируется и может привести к изменению сценария. Для непроявленного мира расстояние не имеет значения, для него пространство – это только характеристика сценария.

"Alexa said that any script that was created there, it changes when materializes in our world with due regard the ability of people to think and to learn. – Похоже на компьютерную игру со своим миром с городами, странами, материками и океанами. Любое действие героя, независимо от того, в какой стране игры он находится, сразу же фиксируется компьютером.

"It's like a computer game where there is the world with cities, countries, continents, and oceans. Any action of the hero no matter what country of the game he is immediately is recorded by the computer."

– Похоже, только в непроявленном мире фиксируется даже не действие, а мысль, может еще и не оформленная.

"It seems, but only in the unmanifested world it is fixed not even the action and the thought that may be even have not formulated."

– Мысли изменяют сигналы, которые идут от нас, и эти сигналы считываются в непроявленном мире, направляя ход событий. В компьютерных играх таких возможностей пока нет. Как нет и возможности программирования в процессе игры с учетом игроков как «гомеостатов второго рода». Наши программисты разрабатывают несколько возможных вариантов. Для них сразу приходится писать код, независимо от того, будет тот или иной вариант выбран игроком или нет. Это и затратно, и возможности миров пока очень ограничены, поскольку написать код сразу для всех вариантов возможного развития событий практически невозможно.

"Our thoughts alter signals that go from us; those signals are read in the unmanifested world, directing the course of events. Such opportunities don't yet exist in computer games. There isn't also the possibility of programming in the process of the game with due regard the players as ‘homeostatic of the second kind.’ Our programmers develop several possible options. Я замолчала, пытаясь «переварить» сказанное Беном. Потом сказала то, что пришло в голову:

– Знаешь, по-моему, если в непроявленном мире и есть программирование в процессе, то его возможности пока очень ограничены. Мы же с тобой не можем, к примеру, сейчас взять и на Луну улететь. Хотя, тебе лучше знать – nы же игровыми мирами занимаешься.

"You know, in my opinion, if in the unmanifested world there is a programming in the process, its capabilities are still very limited. We are currently not able to take and to go to the moon for example. Although you know better than me – you are engaged in game worlds".

– Может, и могли бы, если бы это было целесообразно с точки зрения непроявленного мира как разработчика. Задача это не простая, затратная, каждый из нас связан с другими людьми, сценариями их жизней. Им многое пришлось бы переписывать, что называется, «на живую». Как портной в нашем мире подгоняет одежду прямо на человеке. Но ведь портной не оставляет одежду в таком виде, а потом дошивает ее, доводя до качественного «готового платья». Тогда выходит, что наш мир – это бета-версия, которую еще надо «доводить до ума». И мы живем в режиме тестирования, каждый из нас может быть принесен в жертву в интересах разработки системы в целом. В Библии говорилось о Христе, идущем на заклание ради спасения людей, о «закланном Агнце»⁵⁷. Смиренно прими выпавшую тебе долю, к примеру, умереть в концлагере, как было во Вторую Мировую Войну⁵⁸ для кого-то из людей, или стань палачом… Разработчикам в непроявленном надо проверить все возможные ситуации, даже самые нелепые и жестокие, в которых может оказаться сознание человека. Необходимо отследить, у людей какого типа сознания и где происходит «сбой», а кто выдерживает. Можно ли вывести человека из «аварийной» ситуации, и как? Что сработает в этом случае? Тестировщики наших программ делают то же самое – стараются найти все ошибки в программе, все «сбои», специально «нажимая все возможные кнопки». Насобирали ошибок в системе, потом «организовали потоп», отредактировали код и исправили ошибки, и… следующая версия системы, следующая цивилизация людей. И так пока система, то есть наш мир, не будет самоорганизующейся и устойчивой. А для самоорганизации надо вырастить человека, развить его сознание до этого. То есть не так все просто с этим бета-тестированием… Ладно, это долгий разговор, и я больше отдельными игровыми сценами занимался. Хотя, «сподобиться» на что-то большее… да, хотелось бы.

"Maybe we could if it were feasible from the standpoint of the unmanifested world as a developer. The task is not easy and costly; each of us is connected with other people, scripts of their lives. The Bible says of Christ that he became a victim for the salvation of men, about "the slain Lamb."⁵⁹ Accept the fate that was appointed to you, humbly, for example, to die in a concentration camp, as it was during the Second World War⁶⁰ for some people, or become the executioner… Developers of the unmanifested world you have to check all possible situations, even the most absurd and cruel where the human mind can be. They have to track where there is a "failure" and why what type of consciousness stand the test, and what is not in the same situation. Is it possible to bring people from "emergency" situation and how? What will work in this case? Testers of our programs are doing the same – they try to find all the errors in the program, all "failures," especially "pressing all the possible buttons." They (the developers of the unmanifested world) have collected the errors in the system, then "organized the flood," edit code and fixed error, and… there is the next version of the system, the next human civilization. And this happens as long as the system that our world will become self-organizing and stable, but for self-organization, it is necessary to train a person, develop his mind to it. That is not so simple with this beta-testing… Well, it's a long story, and I was doing separate game scenes mostly. Although, "to be suitable" for something more… Yes, I would like."

Мы замолчали. Для меня всего было уже «чересчур много». Я была рада тому, что Бигбен остановился и перестал дальше «развивать мысль». С другой стороны, я вообще не ожидала услышать такое от Бигбена. Я спросила, прервав молчание:

– А как ты вообще этим увлекся?

– А как ты стала рисовать?

– Мама отвела в художественную школу, и мне понравилось рисовать.

– У меня было наоборот – когда родители разводились, им было не до меня. Родители ссорились, ругались, я замкнулся, мне пришлось тогда несладко. Виртуальный мир был как спасение, в нем ничего не надо было рассказывать о себе, наоборот, там в каждой игре была возможность выбрать для себя тот или иной образ, и никому не было дела до моей настоящей жизни. Я не стал «игроманом», через какое-то время быть кем-то, а не собой, наскучило. Но, проведя немало времени в виртуальном пространстве, я стал изучать его изнутри, узнавать, как создаются компьютерные игры. Попробовал разрабатывать игровые сцены. Сначала «коряво» получалось, со временем научился, и это стало моей работой.

"It happened otherwise to me – when my parents divorced, they were not up to me. Parents were fighting, cursing, I shut myself in, I had a hard time. – А родители как относятся к твоей работе?

"And how parents think about your job?"

– Для мамы главное, чтобы не случилось чего-то плохого, что бы я ни делал. А отец видит, что у меня уже есть какие-то результаты, поддерживает, но его беспокоит то, что я не смогу продолжить его дело.

"Mom thinks it's important to avoid something bad, no matter what I do. And my father sees that I already have some results. He supports me, but he's worried, I'm not going to continue his business".

– Чем он занимается?

"What's he doing?"

– Мы приехали. Надо найти, где припарковать машину.

Мне показалось, что Георгий не захотел отвечать. Но мы, действительно, приехали. Вход был уже закрыт, и нам пришлось договариваться с охранником, чтобы он нас впустил.

– Похоже, что твои родители были непростыми людьми. Иначе их не похоронили бы на этом кладбище.

– Мама была переводчиком, а папа занимался генетикой – в научном мире он был известен, наверное – он часто уезжал на научные конференции, его приглашали читать лекции в других странах. Похоронами занимался папин друг, и я не знаю, как ему удалось договориться, чтобы они были похоронены здесь.

"Mom was an interpreter, and daddy worked in genetics – in the scientific world, he was famous, probably – he was often away at a scientific conference; he was invited to lecture in other countries. My dad's friend was doing a funeral, and I don't know how he managed to negotiate that they were buried here."

Я в первый раз пришла сюда после закрытия и впервые не купила цветы для родителей. Обычно цветы всегда продавали рядом с кладбищем, но сегодня мы приехали поздно. Мысленно я попросила прощения за это у мамы и папы.

I came here for the first time after the closing and not bought the flowers for the parents. Flowers usually sold near the cemetery, but today we arrived late. I apologized to mom and dad mentally.

Сколько раз я замечала за собой, что, насколько бы оживленной я не была за пределами кладбища, попав сюда, я невольно замедляла шаг. Здесь никто никуда не торопился. Суета будней отступала и оставалась где-то там, в мире живых.

How many times I've noticed that, no matter how busy I was outside the cemetery, when I came here I was involuntarily slowing down. No one here is in a hurry. A bustle of everyday life receded and remained somewhere there, in the world of the living.

Мы не спеша шли к могиле моих родителей, глядя на надписи и фотографии на других могилах, встречавшихся на пути. За каждой из них были реальные люди, которые жили когда-то…

We slowly walked to the grave of my parents, looking at the inscriptions and photos on other graves that met on the way. Each of them was a real person who lived once. . ..

По дороге я нащупала в кармане фотографию родителей, которую взяла с собой утром. Кончиками пальцев прикоснулась к ней, и мне показалось, что от нее идет тепло. Вытащив фотографию из кармана, я показала ее Георгию.

I groped in the pocket the picture of the parents that I took with me in the morning. I touched her fingers, and It seemed to me that the heat came from her. Pulling the photo out of his pocket, I showed it to George.

– Твои родители?

"Your parents?"

– Да. Сегодня утром захотелось взять это фото с собой.

"Yes. This morning, I wanted to take this picture with me."

– Они были счастливой парой?

"They were a happy couple?"

– Думаю, да.

"I think so."

Мы подошли к их могиле, сели, и я не заплакала, как обычно. Я мысленно рассказывала маме и папе о своей жизни, о том новом, что вошло в нее, об Артуре, о Бигбене и Лукасе, о новой работе, об «Алых парусах», о царстве Осириса… о том, что мне их не хватает…

We approached their grave, sat down, and I didn't cry, as usual. I mentally told mom and dad about my life, about new that went into it, about Arthur, about Bigben and Lucas, about my new job, about the "Scarlet Sails," about the kingdom of Osiris… that I miss them…

Бигбен тихо сидел рядом, не тревожа меня. Я не знаю, о чем он думал в это время, и сколько времени прошло. К нам подошел охранник и сказал, что пора уходить. Пока мы вышли с кладбища и дошли до машины, совсем стемнело.

Bigben sat quietly nearby, without disturbing me. I don't know what he was thinking at the time, and how much time has passed. A security guard came up to us and said it was time to leave. Until we left the cemetery and got to the car, it was quite dark.

– Хочешь вернуться к паруснику?

"Do you want to go back to the sailboat?"

– Нет, совсем не хочется.

– Домой.

"Home."

На обратном пути я задремала, и проснулась уже, когда мы въезжали во двор моего дома.

On the way back, I dozed off and woke up when we drove into the yard of my house.

– Что ты делаешь завтра? – спросил Бигбен.

"What are you doing tomorrow?" Bigben asked.

– Завтра у меня рабочая смена в «Булгакове».

"Tomorrow's my shift at the restaurant."

– Значит, просто будем на связи. Если что, звони.

"Then we'll be in touch. If you need anything call me."

– Хорошо. Спасибо тебе.

"Okay. Thank you."

– Лукаса я наберу, а ты спать ложись, а то в машине прямо уснула. Спокойной ночи.

"I'll call Lucas. You go to sleep – fell asleep in the car. Good night."

– Лукасу привет и тоже скажи ему спасибо от меня. Спокойной ночи.

"Hi Lucas, and thank him from me. Good night."

Выйдя из машины Георгия, я махнула ему рукой на прощание и поднялась к себе. Я действительно устала и хотела спать. Дома я все-таки заставила себя сначала принять душ, а после, выпив молока на ночь, легла в постель, мысленно пожелав Артуру и родителям «Доброй ночи».

Coming out the car of George, I waved him goodbye and went upstairs. I'm really tired and wanted to sleep. At home, I still forced myself to take a shower, and then, drinking milk, went to bed, mentally wishing Arthur and parents Good night.
